We’re open Thursday to Saturday from 12pm to 6pm or by appointment.

A story about process. Featuring new work by Southern California-based earth pigment painters, Danielle Hutchens and Ryan Snow. In parallel practices, these artists have mastered "turning rocks into gold" in a figurative and literal sense. Foraging in nature, laboriously grinding up and refining earth pigments, and patiently applying color to canvas, are some of the steps that go into creating paintings that are as much about the process as the finished piece. In Danielle's abstract works, the viewer recognizes the shapes of nature emerging from subtle layers of color, playfully nodding to inspiration from the natural world. Ryan's paintings are focused and calm, alchemizing the chaos of everyday life into zen-like clarity. This show is a template for intentionality. Mindfulness permeates the space. Reverence for the earth grounds the felt experience.

DANIELLE HUTCHENS

Danielle Hutchens is a Topanga-based painter and ceramicist, using sustainable practices to bring an earthy essence to her pieces. Danielle’s art explores themes of play, the balance of feminine and masculine energy, and curiosity sparked by nature. Her process is patient and hands-on, working with natural materials, sourcing pigments from hikes, and mixing them with nontoxic binders like walnut oil. She also experiments with recycled clay as color on unprimed canvas – fusing her practices and media together naturally.

RYAN SNOW

Ryan Alexandre Snow is an abstract minimalist artist whose painting work explores the balance of peaceful mind inspired by nature, color, symmetry and resonance. His current body of work consists of organic shapes of color overlapping on raw canvas in perfect spacial harmony within the frame creating a feeling of zen. With a focus on the total resonance of each piece, his practice has evolved to include foraging nature for earth pigment to make his own natural paints, and collecting unique rare pigments from around the globe.
