ART BITES — A First Thursdays Art Walk Experiential Dining Event
This new collaboration between Folklore Studio and Sweet Being Wellness brings art to life through food. We will be serving three rotating tapas and a dessert by personal chef and certified nutritionist, Danit Bea, inspired by our current show: Carvings, etc - new work by artist, Sean W Spellman. Gluten Free and Vegan modifications can be made.

FOLKORE STUDIO x HONEST COTTON: COMMUNITY INDIGO DYE BATH
Got stains? Clothes that need a makeover? Have indigo dreams? Drop-in to our community dye bath then linger after - we'll be playing tunes and pouring natural wine. Better known as over-dying, our communal dip will allow you to cover your stained, faded clothes, and give your garments a total color makeover. Extend the life of your garments, or have fun dyeing new ones. Select white styles from local, ethical apparel brand Honest Cotton will be available for purchase on-site including tees/tops, tunics, pants, dresses, and scrunchies. Dye vats will be prepared by master Guatemalan artisan, Olga Reiche, whose naturally-dyed garments have been featured in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue México.

A deep dive into indigo. Learn to start an indigo vat from scratch and explore a variety of indigo dyeing techniques including shibori. All materials provided including a bandana and your choice of tee/top from Honest Cotton to dye. This 4-hour workshop is taught by master Guatemalan artisan, Olga Reiche, whose naturally-dyed garments have been featured in Harper’s Bazaar and Vogue México.

An exploration of natural dyeing using local, tannin-rich plants. Discover a variety of native plants that can be used for dyes, learn how to create dye baths, sample shades from each plant, and play with dyeing techniques including painting over-dyed fabric with iron sulfate or rust. All materials provided including a bandana and your choice of tee/top from Honest Cotton to dye. Meg Jorgenson will be live painting accompanied by musician, Susy Sun.

An event collaboration between Folklore Studio x The Salt Horse featuring astrologer, Sarah Reese. Join us for a seasonal brunch and intentional celebration at the gallery to usher in the Fall season, in community. We'll feast on delicious food, learn about the significance of the equinox in astrology, honor the harvest with an auspicious ritual, and share inspiration for seasonal eating. CLAY PAINTED SURFACES WORKSHOP
LA based Artist Meg Jorgenson will be leading the 90 minute interactive class. She will share her approach to abstract impressionism through earth pigments. The intention is to explore visual expression through painting with an emphasis on clay paints.

Community Artist Workshop: Abstract Woven Sketches with Annie Millican
In honor of Folklore’s opening weekend and in celebration of the delights of textile art, we invite you to join us for our inaugural community workshop where participants will learn to make mini textile artworks on paper using a variety of collage, embroidery, and weaving techniques. Combining the meditative aspects of weaving with the playful, improvisational qualities of sketching, participants will create a series of free-form "woven sketches" to get creative ideas flowing. Led by textile designer Annie Millican, this workshop is great for anyone – of any background or experience level – who is excited to play with compositional ideas and simply have fun! Materials will be provided and participants will walk away with mini artworks of their own.
